Social enterprise

sweda is a social enterprise started to meet the needs of the local community. We have helped and supported hundreds of individuals to develop enterprises which benefit others as well as working with and advising other Third Sector organisations.

To understand some of the dynamics of a social enterprise it is worth considering the social impact which is created by the activity.

With any social enterprise there will be a need or needs within a community which if nothing was done would result in further disadvantage for individuals or groups of individuals in a community or other environmental or social impact.

This is where the community is important as it is often from within the community that the changes needed are understood, and through ownership with support the quality of those within the community can be improved.

As well as offering support to anyone thinking of setting up a social enterprise or existing social enterprises we need your help – can you be a ‘friend of sweda’?

If you live within the Sandwell area we may be able to help you through the partially ERDF funded ‘Growing the Social Enterprise Sector in the West Midlands Phase 2’ project.

“Social enterprises are businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners.

The government recognises that social enterprises have a valuable role to play in the UK economy and is fully committed to creating an environment in which all enterprise, including social enterprise, can thrive and grow.”
