Meet the team

Our team extends way beyond the employed staff team to a range of other dedicated people without whom sweda couldn’t fulfil its role in the community. These include friends, volunteers, partners, funders and a board of directors, which is responsible for the overall strategy and governance of the organisation.

The directors attend regular board meetings where they receive regular updates on the performance of projects being delivered at sweda and on income and expenditure profiles.

As this is a company limited by guarantee there are no shareholders and all the directors are volunteers. The CEO answers to the board of directors, but is not a member of it. She is responsible for all other staff and the day-to-day running of the organisation.

Davinder Kaur

Chief Executive Officer

Davinder Kaur is one of the founding members of SWEDA and has been involved with the organisation since its inception in 1989. She served as a Director on SWEDA’s Board of Management for nearly 10 years before joining SWEDA’s Management Team as a Staff member.

Adrian Waters is a qualified ESOL tutor having gained a University of Cambridge ESOL, ICELT qualification while teaching English in Monterrey, Mexico. More recently he has gained experience of employability tutoring with two large employment providers in the UK.

Gurjit started at SWEDA as a volunteer in the IT suite. His main duties were to assist the IT tutors with delivering the wide range of courses that are available to clients.

Hayley graduated from Birmingham University with a 2:1 BA honors degree in English Literature with English Language studies. She worked as assistant manager of a charitable organisation for a brief period before attending SWEDA as a client in January 2013 for a seven week employability programme.

Shahen Bibi has been working as an administration officer for over four years for sweda. She was offered a work placement in 2007 to gain experience and gained a permanent position after six months of work placement.

Peter came to SWEDA in order to add computer skills to his employability portfolio. Shortly afterwards it became clear that it would be beneficial for him to progress with Microsoft courses including Word Processing, Powerpoint & Desktop Publishing due to his keen eye for detail.
