When SWEDA were looking for something new to help them train a group of young people (NEETs – not in employment education and training) they turned to Malissa Lewis-Francis a past employee who was now teaching. As it happened Malissa had identified a gap in the market place which went straight to the root of engaging with young people from the BAME community.
Malissa has a passion for Ancient African History and wanted to launch her own training – through SWEDA’s connections with OCNWMR Malissa was able to design and develop an accredited module for Level 1 and Level 2 Ancient African History. After an initial pilot Malissa has successfully delivered a repeat of the course and the students were presented with their certificates by SWEDA CEO Davinder Kaur.
Davinder said ‘It is great to see an important area of community culture being brought to life through this course – well done Malissa and the students, SWEDA has been happy to act as the recognition centre for the qualification and assess the portfolios for the students.’
Malissa is continuing to develop this important resource and is looking to build in some on-line tools.
